Aesthetics of the CENTAURUS Mod
I almost wish my laptop had a Lost Vape app that automatically wrote new ways to describe these gorgeous DNA250C mods. But until they build one, I’ll just have to go on being redundant. So, with that said, to the surprise of no one, [DRUM ROLL] … the Lost Vape Centaurus is flippin’ gorgeous. But oh I can’t wait to pick up a Stabwood model of this baby.
Let’s start with the color/material options. Any company that can offer users a selection of stabilized wood, carbon fiber, cowhide, ostrich and something called “pear fish,” is definitely leaning higher end. Yet, despite all the big words, every Centaurus option is decidedly mature and classy, without stepping into gaudy territory.
Because this is a DNA250c vape mod, the Centaurus display is still a little lacking when it comes to modern aesthetics. Oh, it’s sharp, easy to read and functional, to be sure, but this board is getting a little long in the tooth visually. Fans of DNA-powered mods likely don’t care and are drooling at the thought of a new high-functioning mod. But if you’re expecting flash and fashion, the DNA display isn’t going to provide it.
One other minor quibble (likely also related to the age of the DNA250C chipset) is the use of micro-USB versus the now-common USB-C protocol. Though the connection was responsive and charged/updated quickly, I can’t help but wonder how much better a more-modern connection would perform.
Vaping the Lost Vape Centaurus
For all this talk of aging chipsets, it only takes one use of the Centaurus to remember WHY Lost Vape continues to come back to this proven, top-tier platform. DNA boards remain the gold standard in advanced vaping, with customization and usability beyond anything else out there today. Sure, other developers (like YiHi) are definitely closing the gap, but vapers seeking that elusive “sweet spot” in wattage or temp control will find it here.
As always, using a DNA device is a little more involved than just setting and forgetting some random wattage. From custom heating curves, to laser-sharp temperature control ramp-up, there’s virtually no limit to how many tweaks you can make to your vape experience.
And if you’re usually just a wattage-only vaper (like most of us at Spinfuel VAPE) rest assured that the DNA250C’s fast ramping and unparalleled power delivery will still be a marked improvement over a standard-issue $40 vape mod. There’s a feel to using the Centaurus that you simply won’t find on beginner-level devices.
I used the Centaurus with a wide range of wattage and TC coils, and the chipset (despite its age) recognized them immediately, appropriately suggesting correct settings across the board. When in TC modes, it took a little muscle memory to remember all the customizations, but once it came back, I was enjoying flawless, powerful vaping with no fluctuations or hiccups.
Wattage mode means smoothness is the name of the game, with fast ramping and purposely down-throttled power output that ensures no problems at the higher end of the chipset’s capabilities.
In short, Lost Vape has long been making the most of the DNA250C chipset, and the Centaurus stands as its finest implementation yet.
- Stunning, unparalleled design and comfort
- The DNA250C is a gold standard chipset for a reason
- Smooth performance all the way to 200 watts
- It might be time for a new DNA chipset
- Might be overkill for less-experienced vapers
- The price is prohibitive with so many options on store shelves
Yes, the Lost Vape Centaurus is expensive ($189.95 at Element Vape). Yes, the price is a little exorbitant for 2020. And yes, the chipset is getting on in years. But you know what they say about experience. Despite all of the above, the Centaurus is a fantastic reminder of why “new, bigger and better” isn’t always the right way to go in vaping.
From flawless implementation of the DNA chipset, to hiccup-free performance, and a look and feel that justifies the price, the Lost Vape Centaurus is the company’s finest mod in years. If you’ve been saving some cash during the lockdown, here’s a fantastic way to use it.
