Update: August 20
The Appropriations Committee passed the bill, and it will get a vote in the full Assembly any day now. There will probably be no further warning. Black activists have aggressively pushed back against the ban, which includes menthol cigarettes. Insiders believe that with enough public pressure, the bill could fail.

Update: August 19
The Appropriations Committee met on Aug. 18 and considered amendments to SB 793, which were rejected. It will be discussed again on Thursday, Aug. 20. It is very likely that it will go to the full Assembly for a final vote—possibly as early as next week.
There will be no further public hearings before the bill is voted on. If it passes the full Assembly, it will go to the governor to be signed into law, and he has already indicated he supports it.
Please contact friends and family—anyone who hasn’t already messaged their Assembly member—and urge them to take action now using the linked call to action below.
