The Town of Windsor in northern Colorado, is the latest town in the state to set in place a vaping ban. Sadly, failing to differentiate between vaping and smoking, Windsor banned the use of e-cigarettes along with cigarettes, cigars, cigarillos, and pipes, across town-owned recreation areas such as parks, trails and natural areas.

The Colorado Clean Indoor Air Act removed the option of designating smoking and non-smoking areas in public places.

“It has been proven that there is no safe form of tobacco,” said Director of Parks, Recreation & Culture, Eric Lucas. “By creating smoke- and vape-free recreation environments, we hope to eliminate the damaging effects tobacco can have on kids and young adults.”

Other Colorado towns that have set in place e-cig bans include Arvada, where vaping is banned in all enclosed workplaces, including bars and restaurants; Boulder, where it is banned in all enclosed workplaces, including bars and restaurants; and Breckenridge, where the e-cig use is banned only in bars and restaurants, but not other workplaces.

The Colorado Clean Indoor Air

Meanwhile, the Colorado Clean Indoor Air Act took effect in the fall of 2019. This measure removed the option to designate smoking and non-smoking areas in public places and extended the definition of smoking to include synthetic marijuana and other plant products.

The bill’s Democratic sponsor, Rep. Dafna Michaelson Jenet, had emphasized that the main reason for adding vaping to Colorado’s smoking laws, was the intention of curbing teen vaping.
